2023 Davidson Fellow Renee Wang

When she was growing up in La Jolla, California, it was impossible for Renee Wang to ignore the rising homelessness crisis in her hometown. 

“In my home state of California there are over 160,000 unhoused people, both sheltered and unsheltered,” Wang told The 74. “In San Diego, only half the homeless people can be accommodated by the existing shelter system. 

So, at just 16 years old, Wang proposed a solution: creating tiny homes that were easy to construct, install, and replicate on a massive scale. 

Her source of inspiration? LEGO bricks and Rubik’s cubes. 

Her model — which she dubbed Rubix — is built to be “cheaper, faster, and far more efficient” than comparable tiny home products.

Learn from a NACLO Problem Committee Member and Stanford University graduate who has written NACLO problems himself, and who has successfully coached students to NACLO Invitationals. Gain the skills and knowledge to ace the NACLO Open Round, advance to Invitationals, and best position yourself to qualify to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad. This bootcamp is the first of multiple winter group classes that My Ivy Education will be rolling out in the weeks to come.

Davidson Summer Programs allows Young Scholars the opportunity to engage in challenging academics while being surrounded by like-minded peers. We collaborated with the University of Nevada, Reno (home of the Davidson Academy), so students can have access to university resources and gain experience living on campus.
