Gather your crew and prepare to set sail because Melbourne’s favourite way to mess about in boats is back. It’s official, the Inflatable Regatta has returned for 2023 and this time around it’s taking place in the heart of Melbourne at Hawthorn Rowing Club.
On Saturday, December 9, the enthusiastic sailors of Melbourne will get a rare opportunity to see the city from a new perspective as they float down the Yarra River. Participants will get their very own inflatable boat for their 2km, two-hour journey down the river – sounds like a hull of a time to us!
The fun doesn’t end once you’ve floated the day away. Once you’ve disembarked at Hawhorn’s Scotsburn Street Reserve, you’ll roll right on into the Inflatable Regatta Festival to enjoy band sets, food trucks and entertainment. Entry to the festival is free including for those who choose not to purchase a ticket to float. You’ll say ahoy to bevvies from Watts River Brewing and performances from folk pop artist Darcy Fox and cheeky duo Haybax.
Everything kicks off from 11am with the last float at 2pm, but the festival will keep the fun going until 6pm. Tickets are $65 for one person and boat, $120 for two people and one boat, or $420 for eight people and four boats. Your ticket includes boat rental, oars and life jackets. Sailors can paddle solo if they like, but paddling in pairs is highly recommended for double the fun. Just make sure your crewmates are all eight years or older.
