When you live in the tropics, getting into the seasonal spirit can be a challenge. Sure, there are spiced lattes and wild Miami Halloween parties to look forward to each autumn, but what about those wholesome moments we've learned to covet from the movies? Just like everyone else, we look forward to fall events in Miami and love a good hayride or corn maze. We just do things a little differently here. So let's skip the boots and scarves and rally the little ones (after all, visiting a field filled with gourds is one of the best things to do in Miami with kids this time of year): It’s pumpkin patch season, ya’ll! Here’s where to go to find them, and check back often as we add more to the list.

  • Things to do

Back for a third year, Tinez Farms' Pinterest-perfect pumpkin patch provides the ideal fallscape for all your seasonal photos. Aside from the multi-sized and colored gourds and hay bales, there's an animal barnyard and petting zoo, a garden maze, Tinez yard games, climbing, swings, zip lines, a bounce house and a tubing slide to help get you into the autumnal spirit. You can also opt to add on a cow barrel train or pony, donkey and horse rides to your experience. On the weekends, peruse the farmers' market, where you'll find organic produce and artisanal wares from local businesses. Sep 10–Nov 19

If you can’t make it to a full-blown patch, get your fill at this beloved, 25th-annual pumpkin village in Miami Lakes. Open daily from September 30 through Halloween, Hope Miami Lakes offers baked goods, weekend magic shows, gourmet hot dogs, shaved ice, face painting, balloon creations and plenty of opportunities to snap that great fall photo. Other activities for kids include a playground with tunnels and landings, an obstacle course and even a corn maze. General admission runs from $5 to $10 depending on the day of the week, with proceeds benefiting the church. Sep 30–Oct 31

Open year-round for fruit picking, field trips and produce shopping, this picturesque farm in the Redlands hosts its fourth annual harvest festival this season. Tumble through the pumpkin patch, get lost in the massive, three-acre corn maze, wander through the sunflower fields and take a breezy hayride, all while snapping those quintessential "fall vibes" pics. Other activities include an obstacle course, a jumping pillow, a lumbar playground, a corn pit and live music on the weekends. Sep 16–Nov 5

This adorable pumpkin patch has been around for nearly four decades, and it offers much more to do than picking gourds. There’s a petting zoo, a butterfly garden, a hay maze and pony rides for the little ones (for an extra $2)—plus so many fall-inspired photo ops. The farm is open on weekends (10am–4pm) and admission is $15 (or $13 if you book in advance online). Oct 7–29
