The Song Wat community has come together to launch a comprehensive local guide to the historic trading neighborhood, revisiting the stories behind its many centuries-old buildings and local businesses. Song Wat is a tiny trading lane that stretches between Chao Phraya River and bustling Yaowarat. Its name, which means “draw” in the royal language, was inspired by the time King Rama V literally drew a line on a map to indicate what would later become Song Wat Road. Thanks to new lifestyle venues popping up inside old buildings along the lane, it has become one of the hottest hangout spots in the city.
The Song Wat Guidebook, which has both Thai and English text, was edited by features writer Pattareeya Puapongsakorn, who spoke to significant figures in the community, from longtime owners of warehouses and old noodle shop merchants to gallery owners and new restaurateurs looking to put the neighborhood in the radar of the next generation.
The book can be purchased for B180 at restaurants, bars, hostels, and galleries in the area.
