It's summer, it's hot, and the surge in airlines jetting into Cape Town is showing no sign of slowing down: Virgin Atlantic has returned to Cape Town with a daily service over the peak summer season.
Between the first flights – which took off last week – until the last flight on March 24, 2024, the new service will offer more than 80,000 seats between London and Cape Town, making life easier than ever for European holidaymakers looking for a dose of Mother City magic.
The daily London-Cape Town service will be operated on Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft, with Upper Class, Premium and Economy cabins. Return economy class fares start from £711 (for Economy Light, with hand luggage only), but climb to an eye-watering £2300 – in Economy – over the peak Christmas period.
The outbound flight from London Heathrow (VS748) departs at 4.20pm and operates overnight, landing in Cape Town at 6am the following day. The Dreamliner then quickly turns around to fly back to London as a daytime flight, leaving Cape Town at 7.50am to land in London at 5.45pm.
‘Although a little later than we’d have liked due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the move reflects the fact that travel is recovering and global demand for holidays to sunny, premium destinations is returning at pace,’ commented Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic. ‘We’re expecting a high proportion of leisure travellers on this route who will rightly be taking advantage of the winter sun, exploring the world-renowned wine regions and soaking up the rich culture this incredible country has to offer.’
