Funny things to ask Siri when you're bored

Funny things to ask Siri when you're bored

Sure, now that we’re deep into 2023, ChatGPT is all anyone’s talking about now. But let’s not forget about our old, trusted friend Siri. She was there way before any of this AI nonsense, and she’s never done us wrong. We still love you Siri. You’re more fun.  Let’s not forget: Siri can pretty much do anything you need from a phone. Should I bring a jacket today? Siri has you covered. Good Italian food near me? No probs. Romantic vacations in the USA? Just leave her to it.  RECOMMENDED:🎲 The best online trivia games🎧 The best podcasts to listen to right now🎥 The best movies of all time But if you didn’t know already, Siri’s not just useful for pretty much everything. She can also be a right hoot. For some reason, Siri is programmed to give some hilarious answers to very specific questions. So next time you’re bored and your friends aren’t around to entertain you, how about asking Siri some questions instead? She might just make you laugh out loud.  The best part about this quirky Siri feature is that she may give different answers to the same question, so you can ask again and again. Ask her on a date, she may tell you she doesn’t date humans. Or she may tell you she already has plans for the night. Ask her to tell you a joke or a story and she has a vault full. Pry into her personal life and you’ll be surprised by what she responds. You can even shout rude things at her to get a rise out of her, but be sure to apologize afterwards, she won’t hold a grudge. Sky Skate

Sky Skate

If it's an eclectic kind of skating activity that you're after this holiday season, look no further: Sky Skate, the highest skating rink in the city, is officially back at the Edge in Hudson Yards starting November 15 through January 14, 2024.  Make no mistake: although the rink is set up in the indoor portion of the famous sky deck, you're still 1,131 feet in the air, on the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards. That is all to say: perhaps opt for something a bit different if you're scared of heights?  But if you do decide to partake in the seasonal activity (tickets are available for 30-minute slots right here), make sure to also peruse through the site's other offerings, including City Climb, the highest external skyscraper climb in the world that challenges guests to scale the outside of a 1,200-foot building then lean out from the outdoor platform at the top of structure, according to an official press release.  We are, indeed, shivering with fear.

In fact, in addition to grabbing treats from some of the nation's most renowned purveyors (Burns Original BBQ from Houston! Tacos Los Cholos from Los Angeles! Caracas Baery from Miami! Panzerotti Bites from New York!), attendees will get to listen in on conversations with some very prominent figures. The Art of the Score

The Art of the Score

The 10th season of the New York Philharmonic's "Art of the Score" series kicks off this week with West Side Story.  As has been the case since its inception in 2013, the program features the legendary orchestra performing scores live alongside film screenings.  This year, for the first time ever, five of the six featured movies will be New York premieres, with soundtracks being performed live for the very first time in town. Those presentations include Black Panther (December 20-23), Vertigo (January 23-26, 2024) and Metropolis (February 6, 2024), among others. We are, however, particularly excited to listen to the May 17-19, 2024's presentation of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Although the orchestra has performed the film's score in the past, there's just something about the music that tickles all of our senses.  Buy tickets to the various events and learn more about them right here.

Barbie Dreamhouse Pop-Up Truck

Barbie Dreamhouse Pop-Up Truck

It's still Barbie's world and we're all just living in it. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of, according to a press release, "Barbie moving into her very first Dreamhouse," a Barbie Truck Dreamhouse is scheduled to roam through the streets of New York throughout September, offering visitors branded merch that will reignite your love for all things pink. Expect to see the truck at the Shops at Skyview at the main mall entrance on College Point Boulevard in Flushing, Queens, between 10am and 7pm on September 16. Folks in Staten Island will be treated to the experience the week after, on September 23 between 10am and 7pm at the Staten Island Mall near Barnes & Noble.  Merchandise for purchase will include branded totes, blankets, T-shirts, mugs, bottles, coasters, pouches, hats, necklaces and much more.  Although we might be all Barbie-d out following the success of this past summer’s Greta Gerwig movie about the doll, it’s important we give credit where it’s due. In fact, according to the myth, Barbie bought her very first Dreamhouse back in 1962, "before women in the United States could open their own bank accounts and when only 0.1% of young women were independent homeowners," according to a press release. Celebrations are clearly in order.

Rosh Hashana pop-up tours

Rosh Hashana pop-up tours

Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year, is happening this upcoming weekend and to celebrate the occasion, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is hosting three pop-up tours led by Dr. Riva Arnold, an adjunct professor at Yeshiva University, who will speak about two astounding Hebrew manuscripts from the Italian Renaissance.  Specifically, the expert is going to guide visitors through the Rothschild Mahzor and the Mishneh Torah of Maimonides. Fun fact: both texts have actually been on display at the museum since March and the staff has been turning each manuscript’s pages every three months. At the moment, according to an official press release, the Rothschild Mahzor is open to a page pertaining to Rosh Hashana. How cool! The tours, which are free to attend with museum admission, will take place on September 14, 15 and 18 between 1pm and 2:30pm. Read more about them right here.

PEN America’s 18th annual World Voices Festival

PEN America’s 18th annual World Voices Festival

Kicking off on May 10 through May 13 with a slew of events held concurrently in New York and Los Angeles, PEN America's 18th annual World Voices Festival will feature a ton of literary happenings sure to delight folks of all backgrounds. This year, Ta-Nehisi Coates, the award-winning author of Between the World and Me, will deliver the prestigious keynote, the annual Arthur Miller Freedom to Write Lecture. Expect him to address topics related to book censorship in schools, among others. "America has long been haunted by men who considered 'freedom of speech' a right reserved for a certain class," Coates said in an official statement. "Indeed, this current effort to drive uncomfortable literature from the public square is as old as the slave codes, as old as the gag laws. And just as old are those who understand that true free speech cannot be divorced from freedom itself." Confirmed attendees include Roxane Gay, John Irving, Sarah Polley, Imani Perry, Min Jin Lee and Ottessa Moshfegh, among plenty of others. Find tickets on sale right here and a list of events, which will be held all over downtown New York, over here. Some of them will be free to attend!

Summer Jam

Summer Jam

It's been 20 years since the iconic Hot 97 Summer Jam music festival took place in New York—but the celebration is now back and better than ever, with a stellar lineup of acts scheduled to take over UBS Arena in Elmont on Long Island on June 4. Cardi B will headline the festivities, which will also feature the likes of GloRilla, Ice Spice, Coi Leray, Fivio Foreign, French Montana, Lil TJay and more. Hip-hop group The LOX will also be present to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. It's clearly a big year for the genre! Tickets for the exciting event will go on sale on April 8 at 10am right here so make sure to set up a calendar reminder!

Embrace the World from Within

Embrace the World from Within

Yoko Ono, Miles Greenberg and Louise Bourgeouis metaphorically join forces within the confines of the free, private museum Faurschou New York in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where their works will be on display through September 17 as part of the "Embrace the World from Within" exhibit. According to an official press release, the show "revolves around physical and metaphorical aspects of the embrace: from embrace as the merging together of bodies to embrace as an act of acceptance and shelter or by contrast as claustrophobic smothering."  Patrons will get to peruse through three different galleries, each one dedicated to one of the artists and focusing on works of various form—from sculptures to performative acts and more traditional installations. Read more about each exhibition right here.

2023 Washington Square Park pillow fight

2023 Washington Square Park pillow fight

The popular annual massive pillow fight in Washington Square Park is happening again this year on April 15. Expected to run from 3pm to 5pm, the event will be, as usual, a themed one—although no word yet on what the subject of the day will be.  Some rules to follow at the free happening: stick to soft pillows (leave down pillows at home as feathers create an unnecessary mess), don't hit too hard and never swing your camera around. You might also want to consider taking your glasses and loose jewelry off. Be careful—and have loads of fun!

See inside the new immersive Trolls experience at Camp

See inside the new immersive Trolls experience at Camp

Once again, the Camp store at 110 Fifth Avenue by 17th Street has transformed into a kids' paradise.  Just a year after an Encanto-themed immersive experience took over the back of the store, the space has been turned into a similar extravaganza, this time centered around Trolls in celebration of the franchise's new film, Trolls Band Together, now in theaters. Photograph: Courtesy of Camp The one-hour-long immersive experience is pretty awesome. It kicks off right by the store’s signature “magic door,” a speakeasy-style secret entrance that is certain to surprise and delight the little ones. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by the Trolls' human friends who will teach you a few moves that you will be able to perform (on a small stage!) towards the end of your adventure. Photograph: Courtesy of Camp Also on deck: a slide down a Trolls-hair-filled tunnel, a visit to Bergen Town, the Trolls Tree and a super-fun pool noodle jungle gym.  Those willing to spend a bit more can also reserve a time to visit Mr. Dinkles' Sparkle Spa (despite the hefty price tag of around $40, it's certainly worth it!). In there, kids will basically get a Trolls makeover—complete with colorful hair! Photograph: Courtesy of Camp Not to give anything away, but make sure to preserve some energy for the last 15 minutes of the experience. Spoiler alert: you'll be part of an exciting dance party you won't soon forget! Although last year's Encanto event was definitely a fun one, this month's Trolls one r

I skated inside the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere and it was heart-warming

I skated inside the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere and it was heart-warming

To be honest, I’ve always been a bit skeptical of Hudson Yards. Sure, developing the stretch of no-man’s-land on the west side of town was certainly an effort that needed to be tackled but, back in 2019, when the first shops opened in the giant mall and Thomas Heatherwick’s visually striking but tonally confusing “Vessel” sculpture debuted, the entire project seemed like a potentially wasted opportunity. So, when I was invited to have fun at Sky Skate, which is the highest skating rink in the Western Hemisphere at 1,131 feet in the air at the Edge at Hudson Yards, I was dubious that the activity would amount to anything worth writing about. And yet, whether because of the unseasonably warm and very sunny November day that I chose to visit or because any sort of new opportunity in New York excites me, the experience of getting to Sky Skate and hanging out in the area felt like something that belongs on our list of best things to do in NYC during the holiday season. The 1,024-square-foot rink on the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards is actually made of synthetic ice. To be direct, it’s not anything special. However, the entire experience—from the grandiosity of the mall to the ride up to the top floor and, of course, the outdoor terrace right by the rink—is a memorable one.  Oddly enough, while trying not to break any bones on the zero-energy ecological rink that truly feels like skating on glass, I realized that the presence of tourists all around me and, even more specifically,

This iconic comedy club on the Upper East Side is reopening

This iconic comedy club on the Upper East Side is reopening

It has been over three years since pandemic restrictions forced the legendary Upper East Side comedy club Dangerfield's to shutter permanently—but things are about to change. Patch reports that a new owner, Mark Yosef, a local comic, is planning on reopening the 200-seat club under a yet-to-be-announced new name at its former address, 1118 First Avenue by 61st Street, on New Year's Eve. In fact, the outlet reports that "the club [...] will host a comedy show and a tribute as the final hours of 2023 ring out." RECOMMENDED: The UCB Theater is finally coming back to New York The first details about the endeavor surfaced back in September at a Community Board 8 meeting that Yosef himself attended, during which he explained that the space would stay open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, despite shows wrapping up around midnight. Guests will be able to stick around post-set and have some cocktails while munching on hors d'oeuvres.  Set-wise, you can expect "a modern, inclusive comedy scene, showcasing up-and-comers as well as established veterans" alongside open mic hours.  Given the caliber of talent that took on Dangerfield's stage throughout its long history, this is obviously a big deal. The original space, named after legendary comedian Rodney Dangerfield, debuted on September 29, 1969, with Dangerfield himself performing on opening night alongside Kenny Burrell and Thelma Houston. Fun fact: the hilarious, late Joan Rivers was part of the audience that night! Throughout its

A new rooftop café with amazing views just opened at Rockefeller Center

There's been lots happening at Rockefeller Center in the past few years, and the institution shows no signs of slowing down. Earlier this month, the landmark debuted a brand-new rooftop café on the 67th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, where the views are absolutely amazing. Photograph: Courtesy of Rockefeller Center Photograph: Courtesy of Rockefeller Center Dubbed The Weather Room, the eatery serves locally soured casual fare including pastries, artisanal sandwiches and mezze plates every day from 9am through midnight.  The dessert selection looks particularly enticing. Menu entries include a NYC cheesecake, a chocolate babka and a black and white cookie. According to an official spokesperson, "a bar program with beer, wine and cocktails will be added in early 2024." The best part of it all? weather permitting, guests will be allowed to step out onto the terrace with their coffee and sandwiches. Talk about a meal with a view. Access to the destination, which first opened on November 1, is included with a standard Top of the Rock ticket. Photograph: Courtesy of Rockefeller Center Photograph: Courtesy of Rockefeller Center While on premise, make sure to also check out the plenty of other offerings that have recently taken over Rockefeller Center, including a delicious candy cottage and a new immersive exhibition space called Hero that has taken over 12,000-square-feet inside a section of the Manhattan landmark that used to be a post office. Dumbo is getting its own holiday market on the waterfront next week

Dumbo is getting its own holiday market on the waterfront next week

If you're anything like us, you just can't enough of the various holiday markets that take over New York as winter rolls in.  We've got great news: a brand-spanking new one is scheduled to open in Dumbo on November 20, which is just a few days away. Dubbed Winter by Empire, the pop-up and holiday experience will take over the shopping complex Empire Stores at 53-83 Water Street, along Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo. Yes, that's where our very own Time Out Market is! The winter wonderland will feature a well-rounded experience within its custom-built outdoor unit within the mall’s courtyard. Expect delectable offerings from local vendors like La Newyorkina and Buttercup Bake Shop and beautiful finds from New York City-based businesses as well, making holiday shopping that much easier. Also on site will be a heated, outdoor bar operated in partnership with Cecconi's Dumbo (the full-fledged restaurant calls Empire Stores home as well) serving hot cocoa all throughout the day and cocktails after sunset. Don’t forget to check out the luxury gingerbread house and full-size snow globe on the fifth-floor rooftop at Time Out Market—it’s the perfect Instagram shot. The best part of it all? Winter by Empire will actually stay open all year long, stripping itself of holiday decor once January comes around but still offering some pretty awesome activities and activations on that stretch of town.  While we're on the subject, we're delighted to remind you that New York is, indeed, the global

Let me tell you—Le Pain Quotidien is the most darling chain in NYC

Let me tell you—Le Pain Quotidien is the most darling chain in NYC

“Let Me Tell You” is a series of columns from our expert editors about NYC living, including the best things to do, where to eat and drink, and what to see at the theater. They are published every week. Last month, News Editor Anna Rahmanan argued that fall activities for children around New York City were about to reach peak glory. I’ll be honest—while frolicking around the city, I constantly picture myself as the main character in a Nancy Meyers movie, where every season looks like fall, homes are elaborately yet delicately decorated, the food always looks delicious yet healthy and fashion trends are made, not followed. Alas, my imagination can only take me so far: I live in the real New York, where the seasons change within a day, rent is so high that half of our apartments are to forever remain furniture-less, food is delicious but oh-so-expensive and our daily style choices have to take into account the fact that we’re constantly walking around streets filled with garbage. I’m pleased to report that, after almost two decades in town, I found a nook where my imaginary self and my real self blend into one, a place filled with the warmth that I feel every time I watch a Meyers film, where the decor elicits feelings of peacefulness and where the food is just perfect for what I’m looking for.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Le Pain Quotidien US (@lepainquotidienus) Shockingly, given my disdain for generalizations and their culinary equivalents

The Empire State Building will turn into an American flag tomorrow

The Empire State Building will turn into an American flag tomorrow

In honor of Veterans Day, the Empire State Building has partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project and will shine in the colors of our very own American flag—red and white stripes with blue and gold speckles—tomorrow night. As has been the case throughout the past few years, the landmark will use its iconic lighting system in remembrance of all those who have served in our armed forces.  You'll be able to glimpse at the shining colors starting sunset (which, tomorrow, is at 4:42pm) until around 2am. The legendary building has become the site of many celebrations throughout its lifespan. Next month, for example, it will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of the classic holiday film Elf starring Will Ferrell. In honor of the event, the building will host special movie screenings on the 80th floor complete with holiday-themed drinks and snacks.  Later this month, on November 14, the landmark will shine blue in partnership with the Helmsley Trust in honor of World Diabetes Day and, just a few days later, on November 17, it will turn red and green in partnership with Madison Square Garden in celebration of the Radio City Rockettes' Christmas Spectacular opening night.  Basically, if you want to know what cause you should be thinking about that day, all you need to do is look up at the Empire State Building!

Harry Styles opened a retail store in Soho today

Harry Styles opened a retail store in Soho today

Last year, Harry Styles debuted a pop-up in NYC that drove masses of people to Broome Street. Dubbed Pleasing after the artist's eponymous gender-neutral beauty line, the destination featured a psychedelic wall mural of bright flowers, retro wallpaper, groovy nature scenes and a humanoid frog greeting visitors.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Pleasing (@pleasing) The endeavor was likely a successful one because, today, Styles opened a new brick-and-mortar shop, also called Pleasing, at 61 Crosby Street by Spring Street in Soho.  According to an official Instagram post, the spot will be open from Tuesday to Sunday starting 11am to 7pm every week into the new year. Cue thousands of fans rushing down there all day and night. The brand launched a store in Los Angeles today as well, which is also scheduled to operate through 2024. Most NYC libraries will now be closed on Sundays

We're sad to report that, following Mayor Eric Adams' announcement regarding mid-year budget cuts to city funding, a vast number of local libraries will have to change their operational hours, some even officially slashing weekend service.  “Brooklyn Public Library, Queens Public Library and The New York Public Library regret to announce that as a result of mid-year budget cuts, we must eliminate seven-day service across the city, including ending Sunday service at the vast majority of branches that currently offer it,” reads a joint statement by the three institutions. “We also will be reducing spending on library materials, programming, and building maintenance and repairs.” Unfortunately, given the fact that more cuts are expected to be implemented, library lovers should brace for even deeper service impacts.  "We know how much New Yorkers rely on the vital resources we provide, and we remain committed to meeting their needs as best as we can," reads the statement. The development isn't a surprising one. In fact, earlier this year, libraries across town held rallies to protest the $36.2 million in proposed city-wide reductions. Other city agencies have been impacted by the news as well, including the sanitation department and the police.  Below, find more details about specific changes in hours: New York Public Library Sunday service will be eliminated in all locations that currently offer it starting November 26. These include: Bronx Library Center (Bronx) Grand Concourse

First look at the brand new Eataly opening in Soho

Over a month ago, we learned that popular giant Italian food hall Eataly had plans to expand into Soho. Now, we know that the culinary destination will officially open its third location in New York City at 200 Lafayette Street by Broome Street on November 25 at noon. Photograph: Courtesy of Eataly Photograph: Courtesy of Eataly Spanning nearly 20,000 square feet, the new destination will be home to the same sorts of Italian products that populate other Eataly addresses. It will also feature a restaurant and a café, both of which will be open all day long. At the restaurant, guests will get to look through a pasta section and choose from a variety of fresh handmade options. Make sure to also try the Piedmontese tajarin al tartufo bianco, served with table-side shaved truffle from Alba, and the fornello Pugliese, a Pugliese-style skewer of meats with sides. A list of over 300 Italian wines will beckon as well, ideal to wash all that food down with.  Photograph: Courtesy of Eataly Photograph: Courtesy of Eataly The café, on the other hand, "is designed to be a daily ritual, serving espresso and cappucino" for a truly authentic Italian experience, reads an official press release. Pastries made in house daily and iconic Roman-style pizza pies will also be on offer alongside cocktails and glasses of wine.  The market section of the food hall, which is what many agree differentiates the destination from other culinary go-tos around town, cured meats, seafood and more. Chris Tucker on his favorite things to do in New York during the holidays

This weekend, the always-hilarious Chris Tucker will take on the Beacon Theater stage as part of his "The Legend Tour 2023." You still have time to snag tickets for the Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 shows uptown—and you really should: the 52-year-old funnyman promises that the happenings will be "awesome."  "They'll basically be all about what I've been thinking for the last few years of my life," he says over the phone a few days before his sets. "If you love my movies, you are going to love my show at the Beacon Theater because it'll just be all of me." Tucker also took the time to discuss his relationship with New York, especially during the holidays, and sort of shared some details about potential Friday and Rush Hour sequels! Below, an edited version of our conversation.  How is performing in front of a New York audience different from others? "What I noticed about New York is the energy. Even when I'm not performing, the energy is great here because you've got people from all over the world plus New Yorkers. They come ready to laugh. People just love to come out and have fun." You're coming to town right before Thanksgiving. What are some of your favorite things to do in New York during the holiday season? "I always look forward to my shows in New York! This time around, I'll probably go down to Rockefeller Center to see the tree and the ice skating rink. I try to do that every time I'm in New York around the holidays. At the very least, I'll ride by the

Don't have enough time to make dessert for Thanksgiving? Worry not! According to a new survey by Strawberry Shortcake, New York is actually home to the most popular bakery in the United States—the uber-famous Levain Bakery—so feel free to simply buy a pie from the shop instead! To come up with the ranking, the site created a seedlist of 130 bakeries across the country and then looked at related TikTok data to generate an ordered list. In addition to its original location at 167 West 74th Street on the Upper West Side, Levain Bakery currently operates six other storefronts in NYC (another on the Upper West Side, plus Harlem, Upper East Side, Noho, Williamsburg and Astoria), with plans to debut a new one in the Flatiron District at 2 West 18th Street by Fifth Avenue soon. So it should be fairly easy for you to head to the bakery no matter where you're based. Levain Bakery, famous for its giant chocolate chip cookies, isn't the only New York favorite to make the top ten. In fact, Win Son Bakery at 164 Graham Avenue near Williamsburg is at the number nine spot, undoubtedly thanks to its delicious culinary roster of Taiwanese classics.  And if it's something slightly different that you're after, check out our own list of best bakeries in NYC. Fair warning, though: you'll likely start salivating as soon as you start reading through our picks.  Below, find the top ten most popular bakeries in the U.S. according to the Strawberry Shortcake study: 1.
